All 15 students who competed in Region 6 are headed to State! Myra Castillo and Nathan Scarantino won the gold in television/video production for their Beats Mixr commercial. Nathan also won silver in Job demo for his video on how to use photoshop to “twin” yourself. Emily Garcia took bronze in job demo for her tutorial on flash animation. Our broadcast news team of Daniel Alvarado, Citlally Alvarez, and Nelman Sabillon also won bronze medals (David Lopez will join the team for State). Victor Lindo  Hernandez won bronze in graphic communication. Randy Avina and Miguel Covarrubias received bronze in Audio/radio production.  Melinda Lewis and Emily Garcia advanced to state in Radio (which indicates 4th-6th place). Last week, Chapter display teams of Andrew Liza, Miguel Covarrubias, and Randy Avina…and Nelman Sabillon, Melinda Lewis, and Michelle Velasquez advanced to state, while Lisa Rojas and Makayla Coor took the bronze for their display spoofing Pinterest.  Makayla also advanced to State in pin design.

What I find most amazing about this is they were competing against high school students, including seniors.  I’m so proud to be their coach and advisor.

Victor Lindo Hernandez is, the first eighth grader ever to win a medal at the state contest. He won bronze in graphic communication.
